The intervention, carried out on the Ponza – Latina route in complex meteorological conditions, was carried out with an HH-139B from the 85th SAR Center of Pratica di Mare
The air rescue carried out with an HH-139B helicopter from the 85th SAR (Search and Rescue) Center in Pratica di Mare (RM) ended today morning. The intervention, made difficult by the pouring rain, was carried out on the Ponza – Latina route, and allowed the urgent medical transport of a 70-year-old man in serious health conditions.
The activation request came from the Prefecture of Latina to the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) of the Aerospace Operations Command (COA) of Poggio Renatico (FE) which has, among its tasks, also that of managing this type of missions for the benefit of the community .
The crew of the military helicopter in alert readiness took off from Pratica di Mare airport and headed first to Latina, where a specialized medical team from the Santa Maria Goretti hospital was picked up, necessary to assist the patient during the flight. Subsequently the helicopter reached the island of Ponza where the patient was loaded on board the aircraft and transported with extreme urgency to the landing place of the destination hospital.
Once landed, the patient was transferred aboard an ambulance to the hospital for the necessary medical treatment, while the helicopter returned to Pratica di Mare to resume alert readiness.
The 85th SAR Center depends on the 15th Wing of Cervia which guarantees, 24 hours a day, every single day of the year, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, also contributing to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of patients in imminent danger of life and the rescue of seriously traumatized patients, also operating in complex meteorological conditions.
From its establishment to today, the crews of the 15th Wing have saved thousands of people in danger of their lives.
In addition to the 15th SAR Center in Pratica di Mare, the 85th SAR Center in Decimomannu (Cagliari), the 80nd SAR Center in Trapani, located throughout the national territory, also depend on the 82th Wing of Cervia, the 83rd SAR Group, located right on Cervia, and the 84th SAR Center in Gioia del Colle (Bari).
