Eni and FCA have developed the new A20 fuel, which combines reduction of polluting emissions with savings and efficiency

As part of the agreement signed in November, 2017, Eni and FCA jointly developed the new “A20” fuel, characterized by a low level of emissions due to its alcohol content: 15% methanol and 5% bio-ethanol . Thanks to its low carbon formulation, bio component and high octane number, the new alternative fuel allows savings on CO2 emissions up to 3% at the exhaust, quantified using the new WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle) approval procedure Test Procedures).

The formulation has been designed to reduce the direct and indirect emissions of CO2 and above all to make this fuel compatible with most petrol cars sold by the 2001 onwards (ie, in Italy, around 12 million vehicles), which correspond to more than the 60% of the circulating petrol park in our country.

Furthermore, a few weeks ago the test conducted with five Fiat 500 of the Eni Enjoy fleet in Milan was positively completed: during the 13 months of experimentation 9.000 rentals and 50 thousand kilometers routes were carried out without registering any inconvenience, confirming the reduction of the emission rate and with better performance thanks to the high octane rating.

Meanwhile, Eni and FCA are working to further improve the formulation, increasing the share of renewable source components with the aim of continuing to reduce CO2 emissions assessed "Well-to-Wheel", the analysis that evaluates emissions not only considering fuel consumption but also its production and transportation.

The result announced today represents a further step for the two companies towards ever greater attention to sustainable mobility: a concrete contribution to reduce emissions and environmental pollution.
