Eni and ETAP inaugurate Adam's photovoltaic plant in Tunisia

Installed an innovative hybrid plant for the generation and storage of energy from renewable sources

Eni, through its subsidiary Eni Tunisia BV, and in partnership with the Compagnia di Stato Entreprise Tunisienne d'Activités Pétrolières (ETAP), today inaugurated a new photovoltaic plant in the Adam concession, in the south of the Tataouine Governorate, where Eni is operator. The installation, built near the hydrocarbon production plant, will generate solar energy operating in an offgrid configuration.

In the photovoltaic field of Adam, with peak capacity of 5 MW, the energy produced will be used directly by the industrial site, allowing a reduction in gas consumption and avoiding the emission of more than 6.500 tons / year of CO2 into the atmosphere. The plant, realized as part of the cooperation agreement with ETAP for the development of generation projects from renewable sources in Tunisia, also envisages a system of storage batteries from 2,2 MWp / 1,5 MWh that will allow the integration with existing gas turbines, ensuring the optimization of operating costs. This hybrid generation system that combines gas, photovoltaics and storage, is one of the most important and innovative in the world.

In the Tataouine region, again as part of the Eni - ETAP cooperation agreement, works are also underway for the construction of an additional photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 10 MWp in the city of Tataouine. This project, awarded following participation in a public tender launched by the Tunisian Ministry of Energy, provides for the supply of green electricity to the state company Société Tunisienne de l'Electricité et du Gaz (STEG).

These initiatives confirm Eni's commitment to decarbonising the Tunisian energy system and towards an increasingly low-carbon scenario, in which renewable energy is a fundamental and integrated element of its energy mix.

Eni has been present in Tunisia since 1961 and operates in the country in the Upstream sectors with activities concentrated in the desert areas of the south and in the Mediterranean offshore, Gas & LNG Power and Marketing with the management of the Transmed gas pipeline that connects Algeria to Italy through the Tunisia and Refining & Marketing.
