Eni makes a new gas discovery in the Egyptian Mediterranean Sea

Eni (operator of the block), together with partners in the block BP and Total, successfully drilled the first exploration well in the North El Hammad license, in the conventional Egyptian waters of the Nile Delta, on the prospect called Bashrush.

The new discovery is located in 22 meters of water depth, 11 kilometers from the coast, 12 kilometers north-west of the Nooros field and about 1 kilometer west of the Baltim South West field, both already in production.

The well passed through a single 152 m vertical gas mineralized column in the Messinian-era sandstones of the Abu Madi formation with excellent petrophysical properties. The well will be tested for production.

The discovery of Bashrush is further confirmation of the great gas and condensed potential in the Messinian formations in this sector of the shallow waters of the Egyptian offshore. The discovery extends the gas potential of the same Miocene sequences of the Abu Madi formation to the west of that previously defined as the "Great Nooros Area".

Eni will launch, together with partners BP and Total and in coordination with the Egyptian Petroleum Sector, the development options for the new discovery which will aim to accelerate rapid production start-up through maximum synergy with the infrastructures already present in the area.

In parallel with the delineation and development of this new discovery, Eni will also continue to explore the "Great Nooros Area" with the drilling of another exploration well called Nidoco NW-1 DIR during the year, located in the Abu Madi West concession.

The discovery of Bashrush is a new confirmation of how the "incremental" exploration strategy, aimed at high value opportunities and capable of guaranteeing a rapid development of new discoveries through existing infrastructures, is continuing to provide tangible and tangible results.

In the North El Hammad concession, which is owned by Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Eni holds 37,5% interest in the concession and the role of operator, BP holds 37,5% and Total 25% of the share of the Contractual group.

Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954, where it operates through IEOC Production BV. In 2020, Eni's net production in the country was around 280.000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
