Enit-National Tourism Agency: "Italy does not scare, considered by Covid Free tourists"

The onset of a summer conditioned by the virus has motivated even more travelers who do not seem willing to give up their holidays thanks to the opening of the regional borders and the resumption of some internal and international flights. Italy is not frightening and on the contrary it is considered as a covid free country, hyper monitored and reassuring according to the social monitoring of Enit- Agenzia Nazionale del Turismo. At the end of May there were over 753,7 thousand citations on the trip to Italy - of which 50 thousand appeared on the web and 703,7 thousand from social networks - which produced 207,1 million interactions. The space dedicated by the main European and American newspapers to the Covid topic in Italy gradually decreases and over 618 thousand reactions of satisfaction (of which 85.400 of affection, 335.200 of empathic sadness, 60.300 of amazement) are reserved for the Peninsula. The epidemic trend is no longer the only pole of interest for web searches on Italy: the “economy” theme (13 per cent of web searches) surpasses the “health” macro-theme (9,3%). Culture also rises (5,2%) in fourth position to fuel positive sentiment. The negative trend is completely cleared. Web searches on tourism in Italy produce over 300 million views, a huge number equal to the entire European population. The great cities of art, Rome, Venice and Milan have the greatest volume of citations. Positive sentiment led by the Duomo of Milan and the city of Pisa. Tourist Italy, precisely because of its primacy as a holiday destination, is most affected by the decline in foreign visitors. From the beginning of 2020 to the end of April, the overall volume of airport arrivals in Italy decreased by -64,5% compared to the first quarter of 2019. As of June 4, the analysis of summer airport bookings - from June to August - in comparison with direct competitors Spain and France, it again shows a drop in bookings both in Italy and in the other countries analyzed: about 235 thousand bookings of international airport passengers for Italy, just under 231 thousand for Spain and just over 193 thousand for France . Therefore, it is noted that Italy, despite having the highest number of bookings in progress, also achieves the deepest drop -87,1% compared to -86,5% in France and -84,5% in Spain. The restarting Italy is aiming to recover the 65 billion euro expected at a loss from the current scenarios, where a greater recovery is expected for the internal market. Compared to the period May - October, the most evident drops in bookings are those from long-haul markets: Japan (-80,9%), Brazil (-74,4%), South Korea (-72,9%) as well as the USA and finally Australia (-70,2%) held back by the prospect of a delayed reopening of flights. In the weekly monitoring of Italy, at the eleventh week of observation on the trend of airport arrivals in 2020, a stability of the losses is still observed, which we hope will slow down already in the results of the next bulletin. The decrease in bookings from 1 June to 12 July stabilized at -91,4%, due to the decline in China of -99,4% but also widespread in all the other origin markets, although lower in flows from France ( -86,6%) and the Netherlands (-84,6%).

The European Union, for its part, is putting in place maneuvers for a coordinated approach to tourism with socio-economic measures that you can find at the following link together with the detailed dossiers and webinars of the Turismè cycle to promote Italy organized with the Mibact .
