1.014.053 people checked, 271 arrested and 2.542 under investigation: this is the summer budget of the Railway Police.
The summer of 2022 saw the usual strengthening of the activity of the Railway Police in relation to the greater influx of travelers. In the period involved in holiday travel, 47.701 surveillance services were carried out in the stations and 6.891 on board the train, for a total of 14.095 trains attended. 3.002 anti-draft services, 2.663 high fines, 800 foreigners found in an irregular position and 412 unaccompanied minors found and returned to their families or placed in communities.
The extraordinary control days organized during the summer period were 10: 4 “Safe stations” operations, with an overall intensification of services in the railway yards (10.803 checked baggage, 44.476 identified, 11 arrested, 98 under investigation); 3 “Rail safe day” operations, for the prevention of improper and dangerous conduct in the railway sector (1.834 sensitive locations manned, 150 high penalties); 3 “Red gold” operations, to combat the phenomenon of copper theft in the railway sector (approximately 2 tons of copper found, 6.673 people controlled and 1.378 sensitive locations manned).
Among the most important interventions, the rescue of a woman suffering from a heart attack in the Riccione station. The unfortunate woman was immediately rescued by the Polfer patrol and by a doctor, occasionally present on site, who, while waiting for the ambulance, immediately began resuscitation maneuvers and then practiced, together with the 118 staff, the heart massage and the procedures foreseen by the BLDF cardiopulmonary resuscitation protocol. The woman was subsequently admitted to intensive care, but out of danger of life.
Another intervention had as protagonist a man, hospitalized in the hospital of Corigliano Calabro (Cosenza), in danger of life for having inhaled an excessive amount of herbicide that only a drug could save. The drug, available at the Pavia poison control center, was sent to the hospital thanks to the collaboration between the State Police and Trenitalia. While the policemen from the Pavia police station went to get the antidote, the railway police organized the transport with Trenitalia. The parcels, placed on the train in Milano Centrale, once arrived at the Paola (CS) station were taken over by a traffic police patrol for delivery to the doctors. The man is out of danger.
Among the events with a happy ending, worthy of note was the discovery of a wallet of a well-known brand, containing 20.000 euros of a foreign tourist who, after getting off at the Florence Santa Maria Novella station with his luggage, realized that he had left it at train board. Polfer agents immediately contacted the conductor who recovered the bag, still present in the carriage indicated by the tourist, and then sent it to the Polfer offices in Padua. The tourist has returned to possession of the intact portfolio of its contents.
The Polfer agents of Turin Porta Nuova have recovered an expensive bicycle, worth over 10 thousand euros, stolen in Liguria from a German tourist and found thanks to the indications of the owner, who, following the track of the geo-locator, guided the agents up to the train on which was the precious object, which a man, immediately stopped by the patrol, had taken possession of. The position of the arrested individual is being examined by the judiciary.
