Agreement signed between the Ministry and the Lazio Region for the Valmontone-Cisterna intermodal corridor

The work will connect the municipalities of Rome, Pomezia, Ardea, Aprilia, Cisterna and Latina. According to the designers, an eco-sustainable and low environmental impact work will be built.

At the beginning of August in the Prefecture of Latina a meeting was held for the signing of the agreement for the revision and updating of the Rome-Latina intermodal corridor.

At the table were present the Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Enrico Giovannini and the president of the Lazio Region, Nicola Zingaretti. The prefect attended the important agreement Maurice Falco and the sole director of Astral Spa, Antonio Mallamo.

The project envisages that the initial work will be divided into three 'infrastructural blocks': the Rome-Latina, the Cisterna-Valmontone and related works and the complementary works. "It's a realistic project - explained the Minister of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, Enrico Giovannini - an advanced project from the point of view of ecological choices because with the project review that was carried out, the environmental impact and costs have been reduced, which will also result in lower rates for users. This intermodal corridor is part of a very strong investment that the Ministry and the Region have designed precisely to allow the whole territory to grow in safety, reducing road accidents, and to respect the environment and allow this part of Lazio to be included in the development of the country ".

"We believed in few - said the president of the Lazio region Nicola Zingaretti - and instead today we can say: we did it thanks to the collaboration with the Ministry, Astral and the region to unlock a work that had ended up a bit on a dead end. It now resumes in a new form with much more attention to the environment and to the reduction of soil consumption, a smart road that is an intelligent road connected to the network and much greener both in materials, such as asphalt and with all those precautions such as lighting thanks to the choices. of the Ministry which we are happy to have to respect.

Unfortunately this great work is registered in the list of great works marked by judicial battles and bureaucracy and there was a real risk that nothing would be done, but thanks to this collaboration the work restarts more modern and green than before. The passage that will be connected to the Cisterna-Valmontone and therefore to the entrance of the coast towards the hinterland with the municipalities that have had an important population growth without infrastructures in recent years is fundamental. This will help work, quality of life and tourism prospects. Today is a beautiful day because we can tell the citizens that hope must not be lost".

For the Cisterna Valmontone the length of the route on the main axis will be 31,5 km. And connected works of 8 km long will be the Lariano ring road, the new Velletri-Cori axis and the functional improvement of the Velletri-Cori provincial road. The cost of this work will be just over one billion (1.102,6 million euros) divided between cost of the work (740 million) VAT (162,6 million), expropriations (105 million expropriations) and available sums (95 millions). It will develop with six junctions (Pontina, Campoverde, Cisterna, Lariano-Artena-Cori, Labico and A1 Rome-Naples interconnection).

The main feature will be that of the high environmental and eco-sustainable value with avant-garde characteristics that will then also be applied to the Rome-Latina: smart road, green and sound-absorbing flooring with high draining power, lighting powered by a single cylindrical solar panel with photovoltaic cells. and with battery integrated in the pole.

To explain the time schedule of the works Antonio Mallamo, sole director of Astral spa, 5 years of work for the Cisterna-Valmontone whose process begins in October while for the Roma-Latina we will have to wait for others two years. "Already with the Cisterna-Valmontone we will start from 1 October with the expropriations - he said - with the topographical investigations, with the executive project by November 2023 and with the construction sites, the complementary works and the Rome-Latina will instead start two years from now because even there, the entire design must be updated according to the criteria you have seen of sustainability and on over 138 km of new infrastructures ”.

In the section of the Cisterna Valmontone there will be no motorway (even if it will have the characteristics with 22 meters of roadway) and therefore it will be toll-free, the Rome-Latina section will instead be toll-free.
