(To Emanuela Ricci) All ready for October 2nd when the Our Lady of Grace di Gavignano, in the province of Rome, will cross the medieval alleys of the town during the traditional procession (21.00 pm). In the morning (09.45) the statue will be moved from Sanctuary of San Rocco to the Church of Santa Maria Assunta where it will be positioned in the upper part of the altar and then descend in the evening, slowly, in an ancient rite, sliding on long wooden planks towards its faithful who, like every year, crowd the church and the square in front. It is advisable to arrive as early as 20.00 pm to be able to witness the descent of the statue of the Madonna. On Tuesday morning the Holy Mass, at 10.00 am, will be officiated by HE Msgr. Stefano Russo.

History

On the evening of 9 July 1796 some people, almost all women, were gathered in prayer in front of the church of San Rocco di Gavignano, in the province of Rome, and precisely in front of the window that corresponds to the altar of the Beata Vergine delle Grazie, statue in wood of colossal size with the Divine Infant in his arms, they saw a shining star that revolved around the sacred statue. The women in prayer called the parish priest and the population. It was a miracle: “The statue of the Madonna had opened her eyes and moved them. The movement of the eyes manifested itself throughout the month of July, day and night. Everyone flocked for the whole month to see, worship and pray in front of the miraculous statue ”.

Thus begins the worship of Holy of Grace of Gavignano. Many miracles of the Blessed Virgin, especially inexplicable healings, which make the popularity and adoration of the Madonna delle Grazie of Gavignano more and more alive. Therefore, on 2 October, the Blessed Sacrament is honored with an evocative ceremony in which thousands of faithful from all over Italy participate, especially those who have been miraculously miraculous over the years.

A modern day miracle is handed down among the faithful. A three-year-old boy fell from the balcony, on the third floor, and miraculously didn't even get a scratch. When the child saw an image of Our Lady of Grace in church on Sunday, he said to his mother: "When I was falling that Lady took me in my arms". Today that child is an elderly man living in northern Italy. Every year, at the beginning of October, when he can, he is always present to thank the one who saved him from certain death.

Many tell of impossible pregnancies, healings, omens and many other signs of interventions, unexplained to science. Adoration of the sacred statue grows from year to year and is handed down from generation to generation.

Gavignano remembers and recalls the miracle of 9 July 1796 and pays homage to the Blessed Virgin, with songs, prayers, the Holy Mass, the procession and fireworks.
