Education, Cesareo (Aidr): smartphone alarm, digital alarm

(To Rosângela Cesareo, Aidr Institutional Relations Manager) Eleven sessions in two years of the Education commission with neuropsychiatrists and pedagogists gave this result: “Exposure to cell phones causes myopia and obesity. Addiction, depression, aggression, insomnia".

The consequence of this fact-finding investigation was the ministerial circular of last December 19 that Minister Valditara sent to all schools. The ban on using the cell phone during lessons is confirmed, as it is an element of distraction.

Now the spontaneous, perhaps obvious reflection to do for me is: but in addition to analyzing, prohibiting certain activities, isn't it equally fundamental to explain to our kids how important it is to use the mobile phone and all devices consciously?

It's right that students don't get distracted during lessons, it's right that they respect the teacher's work, it's all very right. But it is also right that curricular lessons on digital and related tools should be taught in schools, the value and importance it has today in everyday life and that it will have tomorrow in the profession that each of these kids choose to do is explained. The work must begin by imparting strategies for the conscious use of mobile phones and digital tools to then prepare them for the future which cannot disregard the use of digital technology and especially the mobile phone, which we now use for most of our daily personal activities but above all in work: we do research, write and receive emails, maintain relationships, prepare texts, practice our professions.
