Instruction. PNRR, the "School Plan 4.0" is underway

2,1 billion for 100.000 innovative classrooms and workshops for the digital professions of the future

Bianchi: “The biggest transformative intervention of the education system is underway. With PNRR and European resources 4,9 billion on digitization "

An educational innovation program to have more interactive lessons and more engaged female students. This is the “4.0 School Plan”, an allocation of 2,1 billion euros to transform 100.000 traditional classrooms into innovative learning environments and create laboratories for the digital professions of the future in second-cycle schools. Flexible and technological learning spaces to foster collaboration and inclusion. In all Italian schools and in line with the growth needs of children and teenagers.

“This is a concrete transformative intervention of our school that we are carrying out as part of the PNRR - says the Minister of Education, Patrizio Bianchi -, the largest of this type ever made, with certain resources and times. Educational research tells us that environments affect the learning process and teaching methodologies. The intervention focuses on female students and students, using technology as a resource for innovation and an ally of learning. In recent months we have invested heavily in digital. Among PNRR resources and other European funds, it is about 4,9 billion made available to wire classrooms, train teachers, bring ultra-broadband to school, support the digitization of secretariats and payments related to school activities, innovate teaching spaces.

A work that must go on to ensure a school in step with the times for students and families ".

From today, therefore, the resources available for each school are published on the PNRR Education website, which have been assigned through a national fund allocation plan, based on the number of classes in each school, with a reserve of 40% in favor of schools of the Southern Regions. At the disposal of each school there will be accompanying tools, such as the PNRR support group, set up at the Ministry of Education and in the Regional School Offices, as well as the School Task Force, managed in collaboration with the Agency for territorial cohesion.

Next generation classrooms, 100.000 innovative classrooms

Thanks to the resources of the “4.0 School Plan”, each school of the first and second cycle will be able to transform at least half of the current classes, designing new environments and a new didactic according to its own needs. A loan of 1 billion and 296 million for the creation of innovative physical and digital learning spaces in furniture and equipment. Teaching methodologies and techniques in line with the transformation of environments, to enhance the learning and development of cognitive, social and emotional skills of female students.

The lowest common denominator will be easily positioned furniture, versatile digital equipment, the wireless or wired network. But the schools will choose how they will be arranged or structured: the headmaster, in collaboration with the digital animator and the innovation team, will be able to set up a design group that will involve designers, teachers and students for the design of the physical and virtual learning, for didactic planning based on innovative methodologies suitable for new environments, for the provision of accompanying measures in the use of modified didactic spaces.

Next generation labs, spaces for the digital professions of the future

This action is aimed specifically at upper secondary schools. The objective is the creation of laboratories in which female students can develop specific digital skills in the various advanced technological fields (such as robotics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital communication), also through authentic activities and effective simulation of places, tools and processes related to new professions.

The workshops are an opportunity to expand the educational offer of the school and must be designed by involving students, families, teachers, companies, universities and higher technical institutes and integrating with the Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation (PCTO).

424 million euros are allocated to this action, divided into 124.044,57 euros for high schools and 166.455,50 euros for second-cycle schools that have at least one active technical or vocational school address.

The other interventions on digital

The measures of the "4.0 School Plan" also recall other interventions, for a total of 2 billion and 443 million, planned and prepared to encourage innovation

of the education system, such as integrated digital teaching (379 million projects in place), such as the enhancement of local, wired and wireless networks in schools (445 million React EU funds), the installation of interactive screens in the classrooms

(455 million of React EU funds); the creation of STEM environments (99 million); the Broadband Plan (600 million in part from the PNRR); the PagoPA-SPID-CIE Plan (60 million from the PNRR); cloud migration and school websites (155 million

PNRR in collaboration with the Department for digital transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers); innovative environments for kindergarten (about 250 million).

Finally, 800 million euros are added to these resources for the digital training of school staff financed with the PNRR, for a total of approximately 4,9 billion.
