(by Mauro Nicastri, AIDR President) If we were to find a word that best represents President Draghi's speech in the Senate, we would have no doubts in identifying it in the word AWARENESS.

Awareness of the serious health and economic crisis that our country is going through, and of the serious suffering suffered by Italians caused by the loss of so many loved ones, but also by the state of job uncertainty that for more than a year has thrown our fellow citizens into dismay.

Awareness of the high responsibility assumed with the acceptance of the assignment conferred on him by President Mattarella, and of the need to jointly face an emergency problem deriving from the pandemic crisis and atavistic and structural problems that afflict our country and that require courageous reforms .

Awareness of the role of institutions and politics; although indirectly recognizing the emergency nature that led to the birth of his government, he does not forget to remember the centrality of democratic institutions and the essential role that our constitutional charter entrusts to political parties.

Awareness of the great skills that the Italians have been able to demonstrate to the whole world in the great moments of difficulty of our history, and which have allowed Italy to rise from the ashes of the Second World War, thanks to the pride and determination of our grandparents and our fathers. From this, the great responsibility that our generation has towards our children and our grandchildren is essential. A sense of responsibility that requires the same sacrifices made by the generations that preceded us in our favor, also in terms of investments in education, school and university.

Awareness of the centrality of the European Union. President Draghi did not forget to remember that Italy was one of the founding countries of the European Union, and the path started to share values and principles is an irreversible path, and at the same time hoping for an increasingly integrated European Union that it will arrive at a common public budget capable of supporting countries in times of recession.

Awareness of the inequality in the distribution of income that afflicts our society, and that the pandemic crisis has further exacerbated, albeit recognizing the importance of the measures introduced by the Conte government to support the most vulnerable.

Awareness of the serious shortcomings of our health system and of our school and university system, in which it is essential to invest but at the same time structurally reform, also starting from the models introduced by other European countries.

Awareness that the models of economic growth and development must be changed on the basis of a sustainable economy and respect for the environment that we have a moral obligation to safeguard and preserve also in favor of future generations.

Awareness of the need to introduce structural reforms and investment programs that have precise objectives in the short and medium term concerning the production of energy from renewable sources, air and water pollution, the fast rail network, the distribution networks of '' energy for electric-powered vehicles, hydrogen production and distribution, digitalisation, broadband and 5G communication networks.

In short, awareness of the problems of our country and what needs to be done to solve them.

The awareness of Mario Draghi and the restart of the country through the Digital Agenda
