Putin's pressure: "cut more gas in Germany"

In a note, the Russian energy giant Gazprom says that starting from Wednesday it will reduce gas supplies to Germany by another 20 percentage points, which will therefore lose about 33 million cubic meters per day. The reason given by the company refers to the repair of the Siemens turbine.

The news leads to a new rise in European gas which comes to touch 176 euros per megawatt hour.

The reactions of the institutions were immediate. "Gazprom's announcement of the new cut in gas flows through Nordstream1 is exactly the kind of scenario the president was referring to " Ursula von der Leyen "last week and which led you and the college "of EU commissioners" to make the solidarity proposal to save gas ". This was said by the chief spokesman of the European Commission, Eric Mamer. "This development validates our analysis“, Highlights Mamer, hoping the European energy ministers who will meet in Brussels will adopt“ an adequate response ”by agreeing on the emergency plan presented by the EU executive.

"Unity and solidarity are needed"And through the demand reduction plan"we are preparing for the worst case scenario ”. This is what a senior EU official underlines on the eve of the Energy Affairs Council which, in an extraordinary way, will meet today. The rotating presidency of the Czech Republic, adds the same source, points "to a political agreement". "We know we have the eyes of the world on us, there is no plan B. Tomorrow is an 'all-in' ", points out.

According to Germany, there is "no technical reason" for a reduction in gas flow through Nord Stream 1 announced today by Moscow."We have taken note of the announcement. We observe the situation in close coordination with the Federal Networks Agency and the team of the gas crisis unit. According to our information, there are no technical reasons for a reduction in deliveries ", reads the press release from the Ministry of Economy and Climate headed by Robert Habeck. "There are preconditions for an authorization legally in line with the sanctions of the turbine delivery. Canada has given the necessary authorization. No exceptional authorization is needed for the European sanctions regime ”.
