Pacifico and the spokesman for the Libyan government confirm support for the stability of the Mediterranean and the centrality of Italy

Mohamed Hamuda, spokesman for the Libyan Government of National Unity led by Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, participated in an initiative by Senator Marinella Pacifico (Coraggio Italia), foreign member and secretary of the Schengen, Europol and Immigration Parliamentary Committee. During the press conference "New roads for the stability of the Mediterranean, a perspective from Libya”Senator Pacifico reiterated her desire to continue her commitment and that of Coraggio Italia in international matters. "The visit of the spokesman of the Libyan government at this time intends to rekindle attention on the Mediterranean, strengthening relations and giving a clear political indication in support of the institutions committed to guaranteeing services to citizens, security and peace. It is clear that a stabilization of Libya is essential to ensure the control and management of migratory flows". She added Senator Marinella Pacifico.

"We want to relaunch the centrality of Italy in the Mediterranean ”, he continued, explaining that this path had already been mapped out by Prime Minister Mario Draghi. "Already a year before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Draghi thought as his first international visit to go to Libya with the intention of looking for alternatives to energy supplies that could be limited from the north of Europe, as happened a year later.", he has declared. "It is a marked path that was then concluded in the last days of Draghi's presidency through the conclusion of agreements with Algeria, agreements that have ensured that Italy could have gas supply alternatives. I intend to continue this international action also in the next legislature".

He pointed out Pacifico, underlining the enormous opportunities for collaboration that strong relations between Libya and Italy can ensure with enormous benefits in terms of employment, energy and society for both friendly countries. The spokesman for the Libyan government, Mohamed Hamuda, reiterated his government's commitment to work for the elections. "If someone thinks that we intend to blow them up, it is not true: we are waiting for the indications of the electoral authority". He also confirmed the reopening of the oil wells which will gradually return to full capacity. "We are not divided between East and West, Libya is one and united. There is a conflict over power due to the lack of solid political institutions and there are external countries that want to fulfill their interests without asking the Libyans what they want. Three million people registered to vote, the Libyans want to vote ”. This is also confirmed by the journalist Vanessa Tomassini, author of the dossier "Libya, the new generation of leaders ”. She declared: “Mohamed Hamuda is not only the spokesman for the Libyan government, but he also represents the young Libyans who despite the difficulties and challenges of the protracted conflict manage to achieve and accomplish the impossible. The aim of this dossier was precisely to give a voice to municipalities, social leaders and presidential candidates so that political decision-makers can listen to all points of view and differences. So as to facilitate a concrete and global process of national reconciliation, essential for free and democratic elections. Probably - he concluded - the lack of a solution to the crisis in Libya is due precisely to the fact that until yesterday the international community was more interested in Libya than in the Libyan people". On the sidelines of the conference, the parties also met the president of the Italian-Libyan Chamber of Commerce, Gianfranco Damiano and various representatives of the academic world and associations.

During the visit, thanks to the efforts of Sen. Pacifico, Mohamed Hamuda had the opportunity to view the functioning of the Italian parliamentary system, visiting the two chambers and attending the proceedings in the classroom. Finally, the senator paid him homage to our Constitution with the hope that Libya too could soon have the constitutional framework to achieve the aspirations of her people for a democratic country based on the rule of law.
