The announced Russian breakthrough with the gliding cluster bomb

Editorial

Russia is intensifying its operational action in the war with Ukraine during 2024, as announced by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Although the conflict has been going on for over two years, with the eastern front as the main theater of operations, the situation still seems to be stuck. However, Moscow has outlined a plan aimed at maintaining the strategic initiative in Ukraine, focusing on the continuous and complete supply of its armed forces.

During a conference call with military leaders, Shoigu declared his intention to preserve his nuclear triad, develop drone production, introduce new weapons based on artificial intelligence and enhance satellite capabilities. The aim is to change the dynamics of a war in which Moscow claims Ukraine has suffered heavy losses, with more than 215.000 soldiers and 28.000 vehicles and equipment lost.

The Russian minister harshly criticized the United States, arguing that, despite the exhaustion of human resources and the lack of successes on the battlefield, they still try to pursue their ambitions of leadership world war at the expense of Ukrainian lives. Shoigu then accused the Kiev regime of continuing to send its soldiers to the massacre.

Shoigu emphasized that Russia will focus 2024 efforts on maximizing the readiness of the nuclear triad and fully replenishing the troops involved in the military operation. The production of drones, including those based on artificial intelligence, will be a priority, along with the strengthening of communication systems, the efficiency in the use of reconnaissance technologies and the strengthening of air defenses and the satellite fleet.

However, British military intelligence has detected gaps in the Russian war machine, in particular the ineffectiveness of air defense against key sites, highlighted by the December 4 Ukrainian attacks on Sevastopol and the Saki airfield in Crimea. Such ineffectiveness led to a massive Russian response, thus demonstrating the true Achilles heel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Russia has also announced plans to produce one gliding cluster bomb, the 'Drel' which they say should allow a breakthrough in military operations during 2024. It is designed to hit armored vehicles, ground structures and anti-aircraft defenses. To date, aerial activity and the use of glide bombs have decreased after the Ukrainian army shot down three Su-34 fighter-bombers.

Meanwhile, President Vladimir Putin underlined Russia's strength and self-sufficiency, declaring that the country looks confident to the future despite the difficulties of the main European economies. Putin reiterated that Russia is self-sufficient in every respect, highlighting the country's growth compared to the decline of other nations. All statements that fall close to the next elections which, at the moment, without future twists and turns, see Putin as the sole and undisputed candidate.
