Leonardo and SIAARTI together in the helicopter rescue sector

Leonardo and SIAARTI (Italian Society of Anesthesia Analgesia Reanimation and Intensive Care) announce the achievement of an important non-exclusive collaboration agreement in the field of helicopter rescue services.

The aim of the Agreement is to increase the capacity of the eliambulanze and the effectiveness of medical services related to their employment through, for example, the study of new internal configurations of future helicopters, the definition of new guidelines and standards for doctors and their training, both in Italy and internationally. Taking full advantage of the helicopter's capabilities, generating benefits for citizens and optimizing resources, requires a focus on the ability of the helicopter to be able to fly day and night in all weather conditions and in all environments, the enhancement of the role of medical personnel, in almost all cases represented by resuscitating anesthesiologists, and the effective interaction between the experience of the doctor and the technologies on board.

As part of the SIAARTI collaboration, it will contribute to improving the capacity of the ambulances in line with the evolution of operational and scientific requirements and the analysis of the needs of medical personnel and the national health system, also providing support for training.

Leonardo will make the industrial and technological skills and his consolidated experience in the field of helicopter relief at international level available to SIAARTI. The agreement with SIAARTI is part of a process of collaboration already in place between Leonardo and the National Corps of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue (CNSAS) and the Association of Anesthetists of the Italian Hospital Emergency Critical Ara (AAROI-EMAC).

SIAARTI will present the state of the art of the complex work of drafting recommendations and new guidelines in the helicopter rescue sector during the REMOTE International Congress, promoted by you, at the Leonardo plant in Vergiate (Varese) on 1-2 December . http://siaarti2018.com/remote/it/

Leonardo is also evaluating the development of a training center dedicated to helicopter rescue, using the Bologna-based AW169 helicopter mock-up already used by the Italian Red Cross, which will benefit from the scientific advice of SIAARTI, while facilitating the scientific society in training activities.

SIAARTI is a non-profit scientific society, which has over 7.000 members and whose objective is the scientific and cultural promotion in various fields of medicine such as Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, Intensive Care and Intensive Care, Critical Medicine of Emergency; Pain Medicine and Palliative Care, Hyperbaric Medicine and Maternal and Child Care. SIAARTI is therefore committed to defining guidelines, standards and procedures aimed at the constant improvement of helicopter rescue operations (HEMS - Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) and the training of personnel. In this way, SIAARTI thus intends to respond to the provisions of Law 24/2017 ("Gelli Law"), which provides that health professionals, in carrying out the related services, comply with the recommendations provided for by the guidelines published by scientific societies and by the technical-scientific associations of the health professions.

Leonardo is the market leader in the latest generation helicopters for helicopter rescue applications, with over 600 operating units in 50 countries. In recent years, the company has launched a path to strengthen its role in the emergency sector also thanks to the signing of agreements with the National Corps of Alpine and Speleological Rescue (CNSAS) and the Italian Hospital Resuscitators Association Ara Emergenza Criticism (AAROI-EMAC). Leonardo also intends to further promote research by supporting activities aimed at collecting data for new scientific publications. The results deriving from these initiatives may be useful for the validation, improvement and implementation of the guidelines in the field of helicopter rescue. The preparation of the guidelines follows in particular the methodological indications (GRADE type - Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation) provided by the Ministry of Health and the Istituto Superiore di Sanità. On the basis of these recommendations, through a careful evaluation of the scientific evidence, recommendations with different levels of strength are provided to health personnel, also taking into account, in an integrated way, organizational, economic-financial and social aspects.
