Leonardo chooses Enel X to launch the energy self-production program

The contracts signed with Enel X will make it possible to operationally launch Leonardo's self-production program with renewable sources, covering 10% of the annual energy needs of the sites concerned

An ambitious program to increase the share of energy from renewable sources, enhance its industrial areas, reduce CO2 emissions and diversify energy supply sources, a very topical issue in this moment of strong market tension. This is the energy efficiency plan and progressive decarbonisation of Leonardo's industrial activities, also supported by the signing of agreements with Enel X, Enel's global business line dedicated to innovative services, which are part of the strategic partnership launched between Leonardo and Enel for the development of sustainable and innovative solutions. The first contracts will allow the Leonardo di Nola (NA) and Vergiate (VA) sites to use green energy for the needs of the sites themselves, reducing the load from the external network also in support of business continuity.

“The Self-Production Program, included in Leonardo's Sustainability Plan, represents a tangible sign of our commitment to encourage the development of 100% green energy sources; the development of the Program, with the launch of the pilot installations, is part of the broader framework of the Group Energy Management model managed by Leonardo Global Solutions, the Group's Shared Service Company ", says Lucio Valerio Cioffi, General Manager of Leonardo, “To contribute to the structural reduction of energy consumption and related CO2 emissions”.

"We are very pleased to contribute with our technologies to the achievement of Leonardo's progressive decarbonisation objectives, a strategic partner with whom we wish to continue the virtuous path of transition towards a more sustainable business model", says Augusto Raggi, Head of Enel X Italy, "The solutions we develop and offer to customers allow us to consolidate the role of reference player in the energy transition with the aim of achieving the right combination of economic savings and impact on the environment"

The agreement provides for Leonardo to grant the use of areas within its sites to Enel X, which will build photovoltaic plants with the best technologies on the market, with a power of approximately 6,6 MWp. The plants will supply part of the energy produced to the Leonardo plants, avoiding the emission of over 2.800 tons of CO2 per year into the atmosphere. A virtuous example of the enhancement of industrial areas, which combines environmental, energy and cost containment objectives at the same time.
