New roads for the stability of the Mediterranean. A perspective from Libya

Sala Caduti di Nassirya, at the Senate of the Republic - Tuesday 26 July 2022 - 10:00 am

"The branches fight as the roots intertwine“Says a wise African proverb. The same thing happens with the Mediterranean countries, as they have common origins, with reciprocal influences, even if they differ to the point of confronting instead of meeting. The Mediterranean area is a vast cultural, natural and intangible heritage which, over the centuries, has influenced very distant hemispheres of the planet. It is a source of cultures, languages, beliefs, philosophy, music, visual arts, expression and communication of feelings, thoughts and emotions. The knowledge of this great diversity of cultural identities will help us to better understand each of the paths that favor the memory of the past and the invention of the future.

On July 26, 2022, the Senator in Rome Marinella Pacific (Coraggio Italia, Mixed Group), foreign member and Secretary of the Schengen, Europol and Immigration Committee, promotes an initiative to rekindle attention on the Mare Nostrum.

With the extraordinary participation of Mohamed Hamuda, official spokesperson for the Libyan Government of National Unity, we will draw a perspective from Libya. The stability of the entire geopolitical quadrant depends on the stability of the North African country.

The event will be introduced and moderated by Alexander Scipio, professional journalist, North Africa and Middle East desk coordinator of 'Agenzia Nova'.

The journalist Vanessa Tomassini will present the dossier "Libya, new generation of leaders - Despite the political chaos there is still hope for elections,”A research paper, or rather a collection of interviews with political and social leaders and presidential election candidates.

Senator Marinella Pacifico said: "stakeholders have different opinions regarding the path that can lead Libya towards free, fair, inclusive and credible national elections and an orderly transition, having an exchange with Mohamed Hamuda will certainly be useful to understand what challenges the North African country is going through".
