Yesterday in La Spezia a National underwater dimension hub, in the presence of the defense ministers Guido Crosetto and the Politics of the Sea In the Musumeci. The Hub is described as an incubator of undersea domain security technologies, with a focus on critical infrastructures, from data backbones to gas pipelines.
The center is under the auspices of Marina Militare, which makes the spaces of the Naval Support and Testing Center available. Important Italian companies such as Fincantieri e Leonardo participate in the project, with the aim of creating new start-up, taking advantage of the proximity to the NATO Center for Maritime Research.
The Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, declared that the Pole represents the pillar of the Italian presence in the underwater world. He expressed confidence in the success of the project, underlining that the results will be seen over time. The National Diving Center is part of a broader vision for La Spezia, which aims to become a fundamental center in the underwater sector, together with a project ofArsenal 5.0 worth one billion euros.
The Minister of Maritime Policies, In the Musumeci, underlined the importance of making the underwater dimension an opportunity for man rather than for the wealth of a nation, emphasizing the need for collaboration and networking. He referred to the Interministerial Committee for maritime policies and National sea plan as an integral part of this challenge.
The Admiral Enrico Credendino, Chief of Staff of the Marina Militare, highlighted the synergistic work model that involves ministries, industries, universities and research bodies. He then reiterated the importance of moving forward after obtaining the investments for the first step.
The national center of the underwater dimension, he said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, "it is a strategic project both from the point of view of technological sovereignty and from an industrial point of view. And the group of him and Leonardo are the leaders of the supply chain, but they have reason to exist only together with the supply chain itself. Our role will be to incubate and accelerate, using our financial capacity, to drive the supply chain and follow the requirements of the Navy and the civilian world."
Leonardo's interest is very high, he emphasized Leonardo Mariani, co-director general of Leonardo, “we think, together with our partner Fincantieri with which there is a memorandum of understanding on this topic, that we can make an important contribution. We can enhance a fleet of small and medium-sized enterprises that often own technologies that, without the industrialization capacity that we large industries have, remain ideas in the cellar".
The project includes an international symposium in Venice in October 2024, dedicated to the underwater world, in which the Polo will be presented internationally after a year of implementation. The President of the Region, John Toti, described the event as an important day for Italy and Liguria, celebrating the positive unity between the presence of the Navy and the productive fabric of La Spezia.
