The State Police carries out 26 personal precautionary measures
The State Police of Messina implemented 26 precautionary measures: 13 of custody in prison and 13 of house arrest. The operation represents the epilogue of the most recent investigations coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Messina and conducted by the Flying Squad on a criminal group dedicated to the commission of an indeterminate series of crimes aimed at the procurement and subsequent transfer of large quantities of narcotic substances, top-down structured under the orders of three brothers, believed to be the chief promoters of the criminal association, present in the Fondo Fucile district.
The investigative activity, conventionally called "The Family", originates from the investigative investigations carried out following a dynamic action in the area, dating back to November 2020 when, through observation and control services and searches carried out in some premises/homes in the neighbourhood, illegal detention and transfer of narcotic substances emerged.
The consequent investigation activities were therefore started, also carried out through technical interception and video surveillance services on the aforementioned family unit and, immediately, the investigative evidence returned clear elements regarding the existence of a delinquent group active in the trafficking and dealing of cocaine and marijuana.
The telephone and environmental interceptions, the viewing of the images of the cameras installed near the sites of interest and the numerous findings regarding the drug dealing activity have made it possible to reveal the existence of a stable association, aimed at the implementation of a series of crimes in narcotics matter, with particular reference to the supply, custody and processing of the narcotic, then resold in the city area and in the province (Barcelona Pozzo di Gotto, Milazzo and Villafranca).
During the investigation, the position of a nurse, working at a hospital in the city of Messina, also emerged, who was found to be in frequent contact with the members of the association headed by the three brothers from the Fondo Fucile district , making themselves available, if necessary, to carry out various activities on their behalf and in their interest, including that of intermediary for the transfer of some doses to third parties.
Subsequent investigative developments made it possible to ascertain the nurse's involvement in further illicit affairs, in collaboration with 5 other colleagues. And indeed, during the period in which the Coronavirus health emergency persisted, these health workers appropriated swab kits from the hospital and used them to carry out the test to be carried out privately upon payment of a monetary fee; furthermore, they surreptitiously appropriated medicines and medical supplies that were available to them due to their use, using them to privately carry out patient care activities.
Further illicit conduct that the nurse was found to have carried out in the period in question was the compilation of false certifications attesting to the negative results of swabs never carried out, in order to allow access to catering premises in the period in which the obligation to present the green pass or an antigenic swab carried out in the previous 48 hours was required.
On the basis of the circumstantial framework thus collected, subject to different judicial evaluations in the subsequent levels and without prejudice to the general principle of not guilty until a final sentence becomes final, the Judge for Preliminary Investigations, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Messina, District Anti-Mafia Directorate, has applied the aforementioned precautionary measures.
The tracing and execution actions were carried out by the Messina Flying Squad, with the help of personnel from the SISCO of Messina, the Flying Squads of Palermo, Catania, Reggio Calabria, Syracuse, Ragusa, Caltanissetta, Trapani, Agrigento, Enna and Vibo Valentia, of the “Eastern Sicily” and “Southern Calabria” Crime Prevention Department and of the Police Stations of the Messina Police Headquarters, for a total of 120 State Police officers.
