MIPAAF, Bellanova writes to President Conte: “no cut for agriculture, strategic sector for Italy. No to President Michel's proposal "

Take decisive action so that "cuts to the agricultural heading are reinstated, so as not to damage a sector of fundamental importance for the national economy", rejecting the proposal presented by President Michel where "the agricultural chapter undergoes an absolutely unacceptable and unacceptable reduction understandable".

Especially in relation to the additional commitments required of farmers with the sustainable development objectives indicated in the post 2020 CAP reform proposal and confirmed with the Green Deal.

It is one of the passages of the letter that the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies Teresa Bellanova sent yesterday to the Prime Minister Conte in view of the European summit on the Reform of the post 2020 Multiannual Framework scheduled for today and tomorrow in Brussels.

In the letter, the Minister also touches on the direct payments of the CAP, underlining that "the general reduction of the Heading" adds the further penalization for Italian agriculture due to the maintenance of external convergence.

Finally, by highlighting the negative effects of the Michel Proposal on rural development, considering the hypothesis of reduction of the entire Heading close to 25%. A completely "incomprehensible" attitude, comments Minister Bellanova, in light of the strong alignment between rural development and sustainable development objectives indicated by the EU for the next decade.

For this reason, Bellanova concludes, "it is necessary to strongly request the restoration of the endowment of the Rubric to the levels of the 2014-2020 period", also considering the role of rural development as the main instrument of intervention for the Regions and the autonomous Provinces.
