Mitsui Bussan Aerospace (MBA), Leonardo's authorized distributor in Japan for the AW139, AW169 and AW189 helicopter models, has announced orders for a total of six AW139s to meet new possible commercial opportunities in the country. This confirms the success of the AW139 in Japan with almost 70 units currently in service.

The AW139 fleet in the country is growing rapidly with new deliveries also stemming from previous orders including two helicopters for the Japanese Coast Guard (bringing the number of AW21s on order from this operator to 139) and two for the Japanese Police on the way. this year. In addition, three AW139s will be supplied in 2024 respectively to the firefighting and civil protection agencies of Hishikawa and Saitama Prefectures and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Hokuriku.
