Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, called for the “immediate” application of the ceasefire requested by the UN Security Council. Mogherini called the decision at the UN "a necessary and encouraging step", but added that it must be followed by concrete actions. "Now that resolution must be applied immediately, with monitoring mechanisms".
Currently 257 people are subject to travel bans and asset freezes imposed as sanctions by the European Union due to their roles in the conflict in Syria. More than 550 people were killed in the bombing campaign by regime forces and their allies on the rebel enclave of Eastern Ghouta, according to NGOs present there.
