Born, postponed transfer to a new headquarters in Brussels

The transfer to the new NATO headquarters in Brussels, originally scheduled for the end of the 2017, was once again delayed by technical problems. "The transition to the new premises has begun and we expect to complete it in the first half of the 2018," reads a statement released today by the North Atlantic defense organization. "The building construction works are largely complete, we continue to work on technological systems. This is a demanding but essential job since NATO requires state-of-the-art computer systems fully protected in the context of growing IT challenges ". As for costs, these should rise well beyond the 1,12 billion dollar limit originally set by the defense member states. 1,17 billions of dollars have already been spent on the new building. "The final costs will be known after the completion of the project", says the statement, where it is emphasized that there were "some adjustments associated with the final phase of the works". The new system will need to be secure for all Nato electronic communications and will also have to control the surveillance of the entire building, with more than 1.000 cameras and input systems with iris recognition.
