17-day-old newborn transported in an Air Force aircraft from Cagliari to Rome

The newborn, in imminent danger of life, traveled inside a thermal cradle on board a Falcon 900 of the 31st Stormo

The emergency medical transport from Cagliari to Ciampino, carried out with a Falcon 900 aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Air Force in favor of a newborn of just over two weeks of life, ended in the evening.

The emergency flight, requested by the Prefecture of Cagliari, was immediately ordered and coordinated by the Top Situation Room of the Air Force Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also that of activating and managing transport urgent medical services, through the aircrafts that the Armed Forces have ready, 24 hours a day, every day of the year for this kind of need.

Once the Falcon 900 of the 31st Wing arrived at Cagliari Elmas airport, it embarked on the thermal cradle where the little patient was, a medical team and both parents. The aircraft immediately took off for Ciampino airport where it arrived around 21pm.

Once he arrived at Ciampino, the newborn was able to continue his journey by ambulance to the Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital in Rome. The military aircraft has instead resumed operational readiness service.

Through its Flight Departments, the Air Force provides vehicles and crews ready to take off at any time and able to operate even in complex weather conditions to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, as happened today, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa.
