Two silver and three bronze medals for the Italian team

Two silver and three bronze medals for the Italian team that competed in the 51st International Physics Olympics (IPhO), organized by the University of Vilnius in Lithuania. To win the silver, Giacomo Calogero of the State Scientific High School "Giulietta Banzi Bazoli" of Lecce and Marco Catapano of the Scientific High School "Elio Vittorini" of Naples. The bronze medals went to Dariel Vllamasi of the Liceo Scientifico Statale “R. Donatelli – B. Pascal ”in Milan, Martino Barbieri from the“ Galileo Galilei ”Higher Education Institute in Crema (CR) and Daniele Fedeli from the“ Augusto Righi ”State Scientific High School in Rome.

The IPhOs were held from 17 to 24 July 2021 and were attended by 368 students from 76 countries on the five continents. The Olympics were held online, the Italian students met at the Liceo Classico 'Francesco Stelluti' in Fabriano (AN) and in connection, via webcam, they carried out the two tests on Monday 19 and Wednesday 21 July. In the individual competition, the competitors had to try their hand at a theoretical test and an experimental test, both very demanding.

The Italian students were selected among the winners of the Italian Physics Olympics, at the end of a period of training and preparation for the international competition by qualified teachers.

The Italian team took part in the International Physics Olympics, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education - Directorate General for school systems, evaluation and internationalization of the national education system, which has entrusted the organization of participation to the Association for the Teaching of Physics (AIF), including the Olympics in the program of promotion of excellence.
