Il Interoperable Summit Operations Command of the Defense is coordinating the phases of the operation Eagle Omina, to bring Italian staff and Afghan collaborators back to Italy (over 2000 have been transported to date). One of the pilots of the KC-767 of our Air Force told askanews: "We are on the KC-767 Alfa of the fourteenth Wing of the Italian Air Force. We have on board 100 passengers of Afghan origin, arrived in Kuwait via the air bridge from Kabul, thanks to the C-130J aircraft of the 46 ^ Air Brigade of Pisa, subsequently embarked on the 767 with destination Rome Fiumicino where we estimate to land in about three hours . On board the aircraft there are many families, many women, many children: we certainly saw in their eyes the desperation of leaving their homes, their country. But they certainly understand the opportunity given to them by Italy to find a better future and to find, precisely through this transport, a new clue. In the eyes of the children we have certainly seen the greatest difficulties: there are more confused results. In our own small way we have tried by supplying small sweets and games on board, to alleviate their suffering and we have also certainly recognized their happiness in receiving these small gestures ”.
