The Catania State Police, on delegation of the local Anti-Mafia District Directorate, carried out a precautionary custody order issued by the Judge for the Preliminary Investigations of Catania, for the crimes of conspiracy aimed at the trafficking of marijuana and cocaine and detention for the purpose of drug dealing, against 20 subjects.
Among them, a precautionary measure was carried out, by proxy of the Prosecutor's Office for Minors, against a suspect who was associated in the community for minors.
The survey, launched in March of the 2018 by the Flying Squad and of the "Librino" Commissariat, focused on one of the historic market squares of the Librino district, which has been the subject of recent media attention.
It is the "market place" of cocaine and marijuana, in front of the palace stronghold of the Arena family.
During the investigation, elements were acquired in relation to the existence of a well-organized group that regularly managed the sale of marijuana and cocaine, with a distribution of tasks between pusher, lookouts and custodians of the drug.
In order to avoid being observed, the organization raised abusive surrounding walls around the drug store places and proceeded to manufacture new ones after a recent slaughter.
The cameras, installed by the policemen inside the market square, have for months resumed the flourishing drug trade.
The intervention times were short, implementing a consolidated protocol of investigations followed by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate to counter the phenomenon of the market squares in Catania which allowed to execute the precautionary order against the suspects only after a few months compared to the disputed conduct (which arrives until April 2019).
Recently, the store was used as a "set" to make the video for a piece of music by a neomelodic singer, grandson of a known fugitive, whose refrain said "this is our life and we can't change it ... whoever errs and sells is by necessity ... ".
