During 2020, even in times of Covid-19 emergency, treatment is guaranteed to 31 children suffering from eye cancer or retinoblastoma; visits to 8.448 patients, of which 1.353 received surgery, involving 9 days of mobile clinics and 15 visits to schools with equipment for blind children.

It is the joint commitment of the Prosolidar Foundation and Cbm (a humanitarian organization committed to the prevention and treatment of blindness and avoidable disability and the inclusion of people with disabilities in the South of the world and in Italy) at the "Ruharo Eye Center", a hospital located in Mbarara, in the south-western part of the country.

The overall objective of the collaboration is to strengthen the visual health services offered by the hospital, with particular attention to the treatment of retinosblastoma. In developing countries such as Uganda, 70% of children with this cancer do not survive. Timely diagnosis and intervention are therefore essential to treat it.

“We have always paid great attention to children and the sick - comments Giancarlo Durante, President of the Prosolidar Foundation - and our commitment in this direction has grown considerably over time. Suffice it to say that, in 2019, we have allocated almost 70% of resources to projects for children and the sick and people with disabilities ".

In this sense, the types of projects related to children range in various directions: from support for mothers in prison, to facilitate forms of parenting as much as possible, to educational support in developing countries (creation of schools, payment of school fees and educators, etc.). But also in Italy, to prevent early school leaving, to encourage assistance to children in conditions of hardship or illness (physical disability, autism, abuse, etc.), support for families with children suffering from serious, sometimes incurable, illnesses.

The Prosolidar Foundation www.fondazioneprosolidar.org, managed by representatives of the ABI and the trade union organizations of workers in the credit sector, is the first and only experience, both in Italy and in the rest of the world, of an organization wanted by the parties in a national contract, which finances solidarity projects with the contribution of companies and workers in the credit sector.
