Rete Mille Infrastrutture and Leonardo in partnership with ANCI for the development of monitoring systems

Signed agreement that initiates collaboration between Rete Mille Infrastrutture, Leonardo and ANCI to support over 7.100 Italian Municipalities in the knowledge of applications relating to monitoring systems of road infrastructures, the environment and cultural heritage

Mille Infrastrutture, Leonardo and ANCI, the National Association of Italian Municipalities, have signed a memorandum of understanding, aimed at enabling a continuous and structured dialogue that allows over 7.100 Italian Municipalities to increase knowledge of the application potential of monitoring systems for road infrastructures , environmental and cultural heritage.

In detail, the partnership between Rete Mille Infrastrutture, Leonardo and ANCI covers the monitoring of the road infrastructures of the Municipalities, as well as the monitoring of the environment and cultural heritage.

Overall, the agreement promotes and supports the strengthening of the Municipalities' capacity for the start of classification and risk management activities related to the environment and the state of cultural heritage as well as the monitoring of works of art (bridges, viaducts, tunnels, embankments, flyovers and the like), thanks to the implementation of technological solutions suitable for the plurality of structures to be monitored.

The protocol contains the joint actions that Rete, Leonardo and ANCI will be able to implement in a synergistic way. Identifying the technological gaps, sharing the system solutions with homogenization of the projects of the various Municipalities and defining a time plan of the interventions that meets the short, medium and long term requirements, are the stages that represent the road map of the agreement.

In fact, the Protocol provides for a dynamic and effective coordination between the parties involved, aimed at identifying and testing, within the context of this collaboration, innovative technical solutions to support the classification, monitoring and risk management activities of infrastructures and works of art, favoring an aware attention and better competence of ANCI, and through it of the Institutions.

In particular, the Mille Infrastrutture Network, aggregating over 80 companies and 40 universities and research institutes throughout Italy, identifies itself as a highly specialized national supply chain, Company General Use technological interlocutor of excellence to address and solve any complex problem related the control and monitoring of critical infrastructures. The distinctive skills and the innovative mix of technologies possessed, through the creation of a platform that ensures continuous, static and dynamic monitoring of bridges, viaducts and tunnels, will be placed at the service of Italian municipalities to stimulate and promote the development of the country's territory .

Leonardo, a leading Italian company in the aerospace, defense and security sector, will pool its distinctive capabilities in high technology applied to the protection of citizens, the territory and environmental monitoring. Satellite Earth observation solutions and applications will be used, as well as the computational capabilities of the davinci-1 supercomputer and command, control and decision support cyber secure by design platforms, capable of acquiring, analyzing and correlating the data collected by heterogeneous sensors to provide a continuously updated picture of the state of the environment, works of art and cultural heritage.
