Russia: nuclear propelled cruise missile unveiled by Putin is inspired by the US Pluto Project

(by Franco Iacch) Behind the cue of my overseas analyst colleagues I downloaded and reread documents and texts on Project Pluto, the first nuclear ramjet in the world conceived during the Cold War. During the annual speech to the United Chambers of the Federal Assembly, Putin said verbatim: "We have successfully tested the nuclear-powered cruise missile." We need to understand this sentence: Putin admitted that Russia deliberately destroyed a nuclear reactor on land or at sea. The characteristics of the new Russian cruise missile are nuclear ramjet propulsion, unlimited range, low-altitude flight profile and maneuverability: the same as Project Pluto, USAF SR-149 requirement of 1956. Pluto was an atomic bomber unmanned capable of flying below enemy defenses. Unique of its kind, it was designed to carry out three different attacks simultaneously: contamination, release of hydrogen warheads, precision nuclear attack.
