Extradition, a great result for a full justice response after a heinous crime
“A step forward so that – after an atrocious crime – justice can complete its journey: Saman Abbas's father has been extradited from Pakistan and is now on his way to Italy. After months of requests and expectations, the government of Islamabad has accepted the request of the Ministry of Justice for the extradition to Italy of Shabbar Abbas, accused in Reggio Emilia for the barbaric killing of his daughter Saman, who disappeared from Novellara on the night of 30 April 2021 .
The handing over of the man to Italy represents a very important result, the result of an intense and fruitful collaboration of the Ministry of Justice - through in particular the Department of Justice Affairs - with the judicial offices of Reggio Emilia, with the Ministry of the Interior and with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. An almost unexpected goal for an extremely complex and delicate procedure, with a highly symbolic value and even greater significance in the absence of bilateral extradition agreements between Italy and Pakistan.
For this I want to thank the Pakistani authorities, for having understood the importance for our country of ensuring a full justice response for a crime that has shocked our consciences".
