Si vis pacem, bellum for

(by Maurizio Giannotti - President SAI Ambrosini) If we want to ensure and maintain peace, we need to be armed and able to defend ourselves to discourage the aggressive intentions of our adversaries.

We must never forget the judgment of our ancestors considered what is happening a little everywhere and in particular in the Mediterranean.

Italy is very exposed to the tensions that day after day they mount in neighboring territories such as the conflict in Syria, tensions between Israel and Iran, the situation in Libya, the neocolonization of African countries, just to name a few; all events that feed the spread of terrorism, uncontrolled migration, growth and internationalization of criminal activities (trafficking in arms, drugs, neo-slavery, etc.).

In this situation our country, with its 8000 km of coastline and an EEZ (Economic Exclusivity Zone) that covers a large part of the Mediterranean, must be able to take all the measures it deems useful and necessary for its own Security & Defense without constraints or limitations of any kind and origin, giving Italy at least on this topic, always and in any case, a voice in the EU and NATO fora.

The air is everywhere hazy, the perception of our security has changed a lot and we can not and must not take the luxury of entrusting others with the choices and initiatives necessary for the tranquility of our people.

The perception of security is very different between the various EU countries for geographical reasons and for the different economic and political vision of the individual partners; from the experience up to now matured, contrary to what should have happened, the results achieved in the common interest were very poor and certainly not the strategic ones, except for rare exceptions.

For over 20 years the members of the Union have above all tried in every way to prevail over each other and some have succeeded very well; This is certainly the main reason for the widespread distrust of the "federation", which today is very widespread.

It may seem simplistic but this helps to understand the position in which Italy finds itself today thanks, first of all, to the inability of our rulers who have succeeded each other over time and who in good faith or bad faith have endorsed the interests above all of the central EU states. .

Those European states that have always seen Italy as a sacrificial territory at their convenience, a sort of "no-man's land ... of all" where to implement privileged and daring economic-financial raids

If the picture is this, I unhappily have few doubts, the future for us will be more and more bleak with the real risk of being involved in some serious conflict of varying intensity.

It is for this reason that as soon as possible we must increase our Defense and raise the level of Security by adopting cutting-edge solutions and introducing innovative tools to be integrated with the systems that can be deployed today.

A first important solution is the urgent reintroduction of compulsory military leverage as many countries are doing, including European ones (France, for example)

It is not a romantic ideaas has been said, on the importance of this choice I refer to the interview recently made with the General of CA (aus) Marco Bertolini, formerly C.te CO.FS - COI - today national president of the ANPD, available at the link http://www.congedatifolgore.com/it/leva-militare-in-italia-sette-domande-al-generale-marco-bertolini/#.WpBvlsi8ocY.gmail

The General with his answers explains very well the need to restore compulsory conscription and, entering into a particular aspect, I add that only in this way our young people will be able to know and appreciate in a tangible way their land, the founding values of it, regaining possession of the territory on which they live exercising effective control.

Our borders are above all on the sea, they are developed for thousands of kilometers and it is especially in this context that we must fear the materialization of serious threats to the population and to the national heritage in the broadest sense.

The surveillance of our maritime borders requires a considerable effort of resources, a very expensive and incomparable effort with what is required for the surveillance of the land borders.

At sea we need to identify and respond immediately to the threat, especially asymmetric, insurgent and to have a good chance of success it is necessary to have ultra-fast and multirole surface units.

Design, technologies and materials available today allow the creation of innovative nautical vessels that fully meet the most stringent operational requirements with a marked modularity designed to face a wide range of missions.

A vehicle with these characteristics allows a limited crew of specialists to intervene promptly with all the necessary equipment to face resolutely the threat established in a stretch of sea between the coastal strip and the limit of the EEZ.

It is estimated that about twenty of these units, distributed along the coasts using a modest portion of the existing sites for logistics, are sufficient to ensure a valid protection of our maritime borders; a new apparatus that integrates effectively with all the surveillance and control systems currently available (aeronautical, satellite, maritime traffic, etc ..) and full operational readiness.

A similar tool offers many advantages that include the implementation of studies, research and technologies already available and entirely national, a high degree of specialization of operating personnel well distributed in the territory, a low cost of management and an unimaginable saving compared to what is today required. deploy to achieve a similar result.

Peace and serenity of our people can never be questioned, our history reminds us; unfortunately in recent times too many have underestimated, due to incompetence or convenience, the moral and material aggressions inflicted by entities in some cases not easy to identify and unfortunately also by many that instead there should be friends.
