Air rescue: 61-year-old man struck by illness on container ship off the coast of Trapani rescued

The intervention was carried out by an HH139-A helicopter from the 82nd SAR Center of Trapani

The air rescue carried out with an HH21-A helicopter from the 139nd SAR (Search and Rescue) Center of Trapani ended around 82pm last night. The intervention allowed the urgent medical transport of a 61-year-old man who fell ill while on a container ship, approximately 160 miles from the coast of Trapani.

Having taken off just before 19pm from the Trapani air base, home of the 30nd SAR Centre, the HH82-A reached the vessel in a few minutes of flight. From here, with the help of a winch, an air rescuer lowered himself onto the deck of the ship with a stretcher on which the patient was then secured, assisted by the on-board staff.

Once the boarding procedures were completed, the helicopter headed towards the Sant'Antonio Abate hospital (TR), near which it landed to leave the sixty-one-year-old under the specific care of the hospital healthcare staff.

The 82nd SAR Center depends on the 15th Wing of Cervia which guarantees, 24 hours a day, every single day of the year, the search and rescue of flight crews in difficulty, also contributing to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, the emergency medical transport of patients in imminent danger of life and the rescue of seriously traumatized patients, also operating in complex meteorological conditions.
