STEM, trade union information today on the new teaching guidelines

This afternoon the guidelines for strengthening the teaching of disciplines will be presented to the trade union organisations STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in schools of all types and levels, in line with the provisions of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), starting from the 2023/2024 school year. After the information, the text will be submitted to the scrutiny of the Superior Council of Public Education.

The document provides indications to encourage the increase of mathematical, scientific, technological and digital skills in nursery schools, first and second cycle education and in the planning of educational services for childhood and contains specific indications for education of adults.

"These measures are at the heart of our program to enhance student talents and fight against early school leaving”, declared the Minister of Education and Merit Joseph Vallettara. "The world of work requires more and more scientific skills and our initiatives go in the direction of bridging the territorial and gender gaps, favoring the restart of the social elevator, stopped since the XNUMXs".

The Ministry has prepared, through the Guidelines, the following actions: adoption of innovative methodologies, with teaching that increasingly starts from reality to arrive at theory; orientation activities to identify everyone's talents and abilities and support students and families in choosing an educational path; development of digital skills and computational thinking; involving students in practical projects and workshops; greater use of problem solving; use of individual planning for the choice of study topics, also based on the student's preferences; organization of working groups for cooperative teaching; development of children's critical thinking in the face of the challenges posed by the digital society.
