US-Italy: Senator Pacifico (CI), "shared history and heritage, necessary measures to protect Italian businesses and families from the crisis"

“The summit between Biden and Draghi strengthens the already solid relations between Italy and the United States, which is confirmed as our main ally. Our countries have a shared history and heritage: our values of democracy, universal human rights, freedom of religion and belief, the rule of law, represent the foundation of our societies and the guiding principles of our international action. Our Atlantic fidelity and our commitment to European integration are rooted in that heritage and, even more so today, with Russia's prolonged and relentless aggression against Ukraine. These common values are the backbones of Italian foreign policy and it is our support for multilateralism that imposes on us the moral obligation to send aid to Ukraine. As Draghi said well, Putin tried to divide us, but he didn't succeed ”.

Senator Marinella Pacifico (Coraggio Italia, Mixed Group), Secretary of the Schengen Parliamentary Committee, Europol and Immigration, declared, adding that “however we must not forget the economic damage that this war is causing. We must solicit compensation for the European countries most exposed to Russian gas due to the sanctions. Like Coraggio Italia, we are already at work to prevent the crisis from affecting our companies and Italian families, already put to the test by the Covid-19 pandemic. This is why we need a European ceiling on the price of gas, including that imported from the United States, and continue on the path already undertaken of the supply of alternative energy sources to free ourselves from dependence on Moscow ”.

Pacifico recalls that “in this regard, North African countries, strategic for the implementation of green energy projects such as wind and photovoltaic plants, are of fundamental importance. Their realization, thanks to economic diplomacy, would represent an opportunity for Italian and local companies, encouraging the birth of new joint-ventures according to the win-win formula. Countries such as Algeria, Libya and Tunisia are prime locations for the production of low-cost green hydrogen which can also be used for export. In light of Lavrov's visit to Algeria, it is clear that enhancing relations with these countries means helping them not to succumb to the false flattery of the Kremlin, thus avoiding the opening of another front of instability for Europe ”.
