Medical transport: man in danger of dying transported during the night from Pescara to Venice

The urgent medical flight, requested by the Prefecture of Chieti, was carried out with a Falcon 900 of the 31st Wing

A 45 year old man, hospitalized at the “SS. Annunziata” of Chieti and in need of urgent specialist care, was transported urgently, during the night, from Pescara airport to Venice airport aboard a Falcon 900 of the Italian Air Force, for subsequent hospitalization at the Unit Cardiac Surgery Unit of the University Hospital of Padua.

For the ambulance flight, requested by the Prefecture of Chieti, a crew and an aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino were used, one of the flight departments of the Armed Forces which ensures aircraft and crews 24 hours a day, 24 days a year. ready to take off in a short time for this kind of missions.

The emergency flight was immediately arranged and coordinated by the Top Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Air Force which has among its tasks also that of activating and managing urgent medical transports, giving the order take-off to the aircraft that the Armed Forces keep in a state of readiness, 24 hours a day, in various bases, for this type of need. 

Air Force crews and transport aircraft are operational every single day of the year, 24 hours a day, to ensure, where requested and deemed necessary for urgent reasons, the medical transport of people in imminent danger of life, organs or medical teams or, as in this case, people in need of transfer to specialized treatment centers throughout the country. Every year, hundreds of flight hours are carried out for this type of intervention, in support of citizens, by the aircraft of the 24st Wing of Ciampino, the 31th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 14th Air Brigade of Pisa. Where there are specific operational needs, the Air Force also employs the helicopters of the 46th Wing of Cervia.
