Urgent medical transport: double life-saving intervention for a Falcon 900 of the 31st Wing

Cagliari and Catania the two airports used by the Air Force to embark the two very small patients in imminent danger of life

The double life-saving flight involving an Air Force Falcon 900 ended in the late afternoon today. The first medical transport, from Cagliari to Ciampino, allowed a very small patient of just 4 days, in imminent danger of life, to reach the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome. Immediately after landing at the Roman airport, the crew received a second mission order for a second life-saving intervention. The aircraft took off towards Catania where, arriving at the Sicilian airport, it embarked a small patient of only 6 months to live who needed immediate specialist treatment at the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome.

In the first intervention, the tiny patient was embarked inside a thermal cradle on the military aircraft belonging to the 31st Wing, accompanied by both parents and specialized healthcare personnel. The request for transport from the "Duilio Casula" Hospital - University Hospital of Cagliari to the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome, as required by the emergency procedures, was received from the Prefecture of Cagliari.

The second operation was carried out on behalf of a small 6-month-old patient who needed emergency medical transport from the "G.Rodolico -San Marco" University Hospital to the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital. traveled inside a thermal cradle and was accompanied by her mother and a medical team. The request for emergency medical transport was received from the Prefecture of Catania.

Both requests were managed and coordinated by the Top Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the Air Force operations room which also has among its functions that of arranging and managing this type of mission in favor of citizens.

Crews and transport aircraft of the Air Force are ready day and night, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day to ensure, where requested and deemed necessary for reasons of urgency, the medical transport of people in imminent danger of life, transport medical bodies or teams.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
