Medical flight: 8-day-old baby transported in the night with an Air Force aircraft from Cosenza to Rome

Third life-saving intervention carried out in very few hours for a Falcon 900 of the 31st Stormo

The emergency medical transport from Cosenza to Ciampino, carried out with a Falcon 900 aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Air Force in favor of a very small patient of just 8 days of life, ended during the night.

The emergency flight, requested by the Prefecture of Cosenza, was immediately arranged and coordinated by the Top Situation Room of the Air Force Command, the Air Force operations room which also has among its tasks that of activating and managing transport urgent medical services, through the aircrafts that the Armed Forces have ready, 24 hours a day, every day of the year for this kind of need.

The little patient, admitted to the Cosenza hospital, was embarked on the Falcon 900 aircraft of the 31st Wing which arrived at the Cosenza airport and traveled inside a thermal cradle, accompanied by a medical team. The aircraft immediately took off for Ciampino airport where it arrived around 4 this night.

Once she arrived at the Roman airport, the little patient was able to continue her journey by ambulance to the Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital in Rome. The military aircraft has instead resumed operational readiness service.

Through its Flight Departments, the Air Force provides means and crews ready to take off at any time and able to operate even in complex weather conditions to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, as happened today, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants. Hundreds of flight hours are carried out every year for this type of intervention by the aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and the helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia.
