The joint intervention between the Air Force and the Sicilian Alpine and Speleological Rescue to recover a Friulian tourist who was injured on the island of Marettimo ended in the late afternoon today. The accident occurred in the Punta Troia area when the 69-year-old woman, on holiday on the Egadi island with a group of friends, slipped while walking along a particularly challenging stretch of path, causing a suspected fracture of the tibia and fibula. No longer able to continue, the friends he was with called the Single Emergency Number 112. The 118 call center requested the intervention of the Alpine Rescue which, to ensure rapid recovery in an inaccessible area, subsequently requested the intervention of a military helicopter at the Rescue Coordination Center of the Aerospace Operations Command of Poggio Renatico.

RCC of the COA thus immediately activated the military crew in readiness from the alarm of the 82nd SAR Center of the 15th Wing of the Air Force stationed at Trapani airport.

An HH 139A helicopter then took off from the Sicilian airport and took on board two SASS helicopter rescue technicians to transport them to the accident site a few minutes later. An Alpine Rescue technician and an air rescuer from the Air Force reached the woman, immobilized her leg and hoisted her aboard the helicopter with the winch to disembark her immediately afterwards in the area of ​​the Sant'Antonio Abate hospital in Trapani for necessary health care.
