Tragedy in Mestre: bus falls from the overpass, 21 dead and 15 injured. Two children died and 5 were seriously injured

Last night at 19.39pm in Mestre (Ve) a bus fell from the Vempa overpass. The scenes that the rescuers found themselves, as confirmed by the mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro, were apocalyptic ones. During the thirty meter fall, the bus hit the electrical cables of the railway below, catching fire. Upon their arrival, rescuers found many charred victims lying on the ground.

According to the prefecture of Venice the toll is tragic, 21 dead, including two children, and 15 injured. At least 5 injured are very serious in hospital. The bus, used for tourism, was carrying a group of foreign tourists, including Ukrainians, French, Croatians and Germans. He was returning to Marghera after being in Venice. Among the first hypotheses of the accident was perhaps an illness on the part of the driver, a 40-year-old Italian who also died. There would be no sign of any braking. The mayor of Venice has ordered the city to mourn, while the prosecutor's office has opened an investigation.

The firefighters and the police continue to work to carry out all the useful surveys on the overpass, there is also a crane on site to try to turn the vehicle - which was traveling along a ramp with two lanes traveling in the same direction and which after falling it overturned.

There is no longer the noise of the ambulance sirens, but the lights and the men remain working to understand what happened. The scene, from what has been learned, would have been filmed by cameras which could therefore accurately convey what happened at 19.39pm last night. All hypotheses remain open: from the driver's illness to the hypothesis of a collision with another vehicle before crashing. In the second case, a possible other vehicle would have fled the scene of the disaster.
