EU, Lollobrigida. On emissions reduction up to other bureaucratic and economic burdens

During the last Agrifish Council, among the various items on the agenda, the proposal to revise the Directive on industrial emissions was also discussed. In this context, many Member States, including Italy, questioned the approach taken by the European Commission. It has been underlined from many quarters that this address appears extremely bureaucratic, disproportionate and onerous. Furthermore, the risk that food security could be jeopardized should be taken into great consideration, given the geopolitical crisis following the Russian aggression on Ukraine, which has already led to the increase in the price of agricultural inputs, such as energy and fertilizers.

"In our opinion, the reduction of emissions - says Minister Francesco Lollobrigida - is achieved by helping the breeding system to be more sustainable, and this is what we have done with the CAP Strategic Plan, certainly not by introducing additional bureaucratic burdens, which inevitable increase in costs, absolutely unsustainable, especially for small family-run businesses”.
