US and Russians, Monday wave of arrests

Yesterday the jury approved the first indictments in the Russiagate investigation, led by special prosecutor Robert Mueller, who investigates alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election, an informed source confirmed to Reuters. The names of the persons under investigation and the nature of the offenses remain confidential for the moment, by order of a federal judge. New revelations could arrive on Monday, the day in which - as reported by CNN - the first arrests would be expected. US intelligence agencies, last January, came to the conclusion that Russia interfered in the elections to favor current President Donald Trump against Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. People close to the Moscow secret services, according to the indictment, have influenced public opinion through hacking actions, including posting embarrassing emails and spreading fake news through social media. Special Prosecutor Mueller's investigation focuses on the hypothesis that Trump's campaign manager and his associates met and colluded with Russian agents. Sources close to the investigation explain that Mueller, since his appointment on May 17, has deepened the links between Trump's entourage and some foreign governments, as well as the hypotheses of money laundering, tax evasion and other financial crimes. Another strand of the investigation concerns Trump's alleged obstruction of justice for the sacking of FBI director James Comey. Among others, investigators heard former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and former president's spokesman Sean Spicer. Mueller's team also investigates Michael Flynn, Trump's campaign adviser and, later, National Security Advisor. Flynn was forced to leave after lying to Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak.
