Agriculture. Lollobrigida: Masaf-Ispra collaboration on large carnivores

"This morning I met the Prefect Stefano Laporta, president of Ispra, to investigate the possibility of collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests and the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research. The goal is to solve the critical issues concerning ungulates and large carnivores with a view to a correct relationship between the presence of man, that of wildlife and environmental sustainability. I also had the opportunity to discuss this with the Undersecretary for the Environment Claudio Barbaro, to promote joint action in line with the needs of citizens. The excessive presence of certain animals on some territories creates imbalances causing risks for public health and for some strategic production sectors, as well as nullifying the protection of other species. The comparison was timely and fruitful. In the next few days, technical discussions will take place to carry on the work already begun in the past but, above all, to be able to quickly find the answers in regulatory terms. We have the need and the duty to tackle long-standing problems that weigh on the state budget for millions of euros. I informed the presidents of the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano, who had represented the critical issues emerging on their territories with respect to the presence of large carnivores, of the actions we have undertaken in continuity with them and the scientific institutions of the sector. From these we intend to draw all the technical indications in line with the Italian and European provisions. The government will be ready to follow up on the initiatives that will be indicated to it by Parliament".

This was declared by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, Francesco Lollobrigida.
