Proper hydration: an effective method to fight and prevent cellulite

Professor Alessandro Zanasi recommends: abundant consumption of magnesium water and a diet rich in liquids and long walks

Cellulite is one of the most widespread and hated imperfections in the world especially with the arrival of the summer period and the much feared swimsuit test. This subcutaneous inflammation affects the adipose tissue, the interstitial tissue (between one cell and the other) and the venous-lymphatic, giving life to small holes on the skin of some areas of the body, and thus creating situations of discomfort especially in women. more predisposed to its presentation than men, due to a different hormonal composition and adipose tissues, which favors its manifestation. Professor Alessandro Zanasi of the University of Bologna and expert of the San Pellegrino Observatory, explains how correct hydration, if combined with a balanced diet and physical activity, can effectively contribute to defeating this annoying imperfection.

Proper and abundant hydration is essential to fight cellulite, but what really affects the body is the composition of the water you drink. What must be taken into consideration is the hydro-saline balance and the amount of magnesium contained within it. “The waters which, according to international classifications, are defined as“ magnesian, ie with a concentration of magnesium higher than 50 mg / L, are particularly suitable - explains Professor Zanasi. This element, in fact, improves fat burning, regulates intestinal functions and contributes to the elimination of lactic acid responsible for water retention. "

Taking a correct amount of water helps the body not to accumulate fluids and toxins that favor the presentation of cellulite, but it is equally important to follow a balanced diet. Specifically, to combat cellulite and water retention we recommend:

  • consume at least 1.5 / 2L of water per day (also in the form of tea or herbal teas)
  • eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, foods naturally rich in water and fiber, which help purify the body;
  • control the sodium intake, limiting the use of both table salt and foods rich in salt (for example aged cheeses, cold cuts, cured meats, canned foods and ready-made dishes);
  • consume foods rich in antioxidants, in particular anthocyanins, because they strengthen the walls of blood capillaries by improving microcirculation. Anthocyanins are mainly contained in red fruits: blueberries, red grapes, raspberries, strawberries, black currants, blackberries and the like.

Another fundamental element to combine with a correct intake of liquids and a healthy diet is physical activity, also indicated in order to promote the improvement of the blood microcirculation. In particular, it is advisable to take long walks (to be preferred over running) which help in particular to stimulate the venous circulation of the lower limbs, as the muscles create a movement in the veins that pushes the blood from the bottom upwards, thus contributing to counteract water retention.
