Ddl Road safety, from the MIM courses in schools and reward points on the driving license for visitors

Valditara: "Transmitting to young people the importance of prudent, safe, aware driving"

Today the Council of Ministers approved the bill dedicated to interventions in the field of road safety and delegation for the revision of the Highway Code, presented by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, in synergy with the Minister of Education and Thanks to Giuseppe Valditara and with the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi.

As regards interventions of interest to the MIM, education in the school environment will be strengthened, by setting up extra-curricular road safety education courses with a final reward: each student who has attended them will be awarded two additional points when obtaining a driving licence. The courses will be introduced by intervening on article 230 of the Highway Code and will be organized by state and private secondary schools.

“Every year in Italy a large number of people – many of them very young – lose their lives in road accidents. To counter this tragic balance, starting next year we will enhance the teaching of road safety education in schools, through courses held by expert personnel, at the end of which the children who took part will be assigned additional credits when they obtain their driving license . It is crucial to make our girls and boys aware of the importance of prudent, safe and aware driving”, declared the Minister of Education and Merit Giuseppe Valditara.

The other initiatives of the MIM for road safety education

The interventions of the MIM in the bill are part of the numerous initiatives of the Ministry to promote the culture of road safety and prevention in schools of all levels, involving students of all age groups.

In all secondary schools, checks will be carried out on the knowledge and information of boys and girls regarding safety and the law on road homicide.

Meeting and comparison workshops will be held between young people, also via social networks or videos, and between upper and lower cycle students for peer tutoring experiences (teaching activities between peers in which young people provide help and support to the learning from others in an interactive and systematic way), as well as between upper cycle teachers and lower cycle students, to experiment with activities related to road safety.

The Ministry is preparing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Automobile Club Italia (ACI) to organize events aimed at schools of all levels on safety and accident prevention and with the possibility of activities dedicated to "safe driving".

In the guidelines for the teaching of civic education, the importance of ensuring ample space for road safety education will be recalled.

A new working table will be set up with the Traffic Police, with the Department of Psychology of the Sapienza University of Rome, with the "Lorenzo Guarnieri" Association and with the "Valdiserri" Association to define new contents to be introduced in the educational courses curricular and extracurricular.
