As part of a complex investigation carried out by the Postal and Communications Police Service, in concert with the Milan and Bari Departments, with the coordination of the Public Prosecutors at the Courts of Rome, Milan and of Bari's minors 4 subjects were identified, searched and investigated, including 2 minors, managers of various Telegram channels specialized in the illegal offer of fake Covid-19 Green Pass Certificates, for the crimes of fraud and forgery.
The investigations resulted from a widespread monitoring of the internet, through which the specialists of the Postal Police, through complex technical and financial analyzes of the block chain, the technology behind cryptocurrencies, were able to identify the sales channels and identify them. administrators.
Thousands of users subscribed to the channels on well-known communication platforms where the sale of fake green passes, to be paid in cryptocurrency or vouchers for online shopping platforms, was proposed, with an absolute guarantee of anonymity, at a price between 150 and 500 euros.
There are a total of thirty-two Telegram channels seized by the agents of the Postal Police during the investigation in execution of the preventive seizure decree issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Rome at the request of the Capitoline Public Prosecutor, thus allowing the interruption of the criminal activity.
The investigative activity, still in progress, is aimed at identifying the administrators of additional channels identified as well as the buyers.
Please note that any original Green Pass certificate cannot be forged or tampered with as each certification is digitally produced with a private key from the Ministry of Health that ensures its authenticity. At each check with the official Verification C19 App, the ministerial database containing the official list of the vaccinated population is queried and, consequently, a QR-CODE generated with an inauthentic certification would not pass the verification procedure.
