Italy-Israel: "partners navigating the new era of policing"

In the past few days, two concomitant international events were held in Tel Aviv (Israel), reserved respectively for top police forces and experts in technologies applied to security, which were attended by qualified delegations representing the national systems of law enforcement and public aid.

On the first day, a bilateral meeting was held between the Chief of the Israeli Police, Yacoov SHABTAY and the top delegation of the Police Forces made up of the Deputy Director General in charge of Coordination, Prefect Stefano GAMBACURTA, the Deputy Commander of the Carabinieri, Gen. CA Maurizio Detalmo MEZZAVILLA, by the Second Commander of the Guardia di Finanza, Gen. CA Andrea DE GENNARO and by the Director of the International Relations Service of the Office for the Coordination and Planning of the Police Forces, Dir. Sup. of the Police of State, Dr. Eufemia ESPOSITO.

Prefect GAMBACURTA, in his introductory speech, greeting the Chief of Police-General Director of Public Security, intended to underline the value and attention that the Department pays to cooperation with the Israeli police, which continues to represent a point of reference efficiency and professionalism. He also highlighted the need to share, in the wake of the fruitful police collaboration between Italy and Israel, analyzes and methodologies for countering criminal phenomena of mutual interest, highlighting, in particular, the need to promote cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and to cybercrime and inviting the Israeli authorities to the next bilateral technical table, to be held in Rome.

The Symposium, with the theme "Partners navigating the new era of policing", which saw the participation of international representatives, was opened by the interventions of the Chief of Police SHABTAY and the Minister of Security, Ben GVIR, who emphasized some policy lines: first of all, the need to consider the police forces as a key element to ensure stability and the rule of law, secondly, the overcoming of geographical and physical concepts in risk analysis and threat identification (with the consequent need to strengthen international police cooperation which becomes a key element for global security) and, finally, the full use of cutting-edge technologies applied to security.

The second day of work - in which, for Italy, the Director of the International Relations Service of the Office for the Coordination and Planning of the Police Forces took part - was dedicated to the presentation to the leaders of the more than 40 countries taking part, of the most innovative technologies developed by Israeli companies and start-ups within the Israeli Police Academy in Bet Shemes.

In this context of exchange, it has been noted that the precondition for achieving significant levels of efficiency of the police forces is the strengthening of the human element through joint training and the sharing of best practices.

In terms of bilateral police cooperation, some initiatives have already been suggested aimed at enhancing synergies and strengthening future cooperation.

To take up the title of the Symposium, it is a long journey that requires cooperation, professionalism and creativity and an openness towards colleagues from the various police forces, capable of breaking down the barriers towards the "new era of security".
