Searches were carried out on 18 subjects of North African origin for links to sectarian extremist circles

The State Police and the Carabinieri of Bologna through the personnel of the ROS of the Carabinieri and the DIGOS of the Bologna Police Headquarters, with the support of the Special Operational Group of Rome and the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police, are proceeding with the execution of a decree of search, issued by District Attorney Dr. Giuseppe AMATO and by PM Dr. Stefano DAMBRUOSO of the District Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Bologna, against 18 subjects of North African origin, living in the provinces of Bologna, Brescia, Como, Fermo, Ferrara, Lecco, Macerata, Teramo, Palermo, Perugia, Rome, Turin , Trento and Udine.

The measures, which are part of the investigative investigations resulting from the attack perpetrated in Brussels on 16 October by the Tunisian citizen LASSOUED Abdessalem, also originate from acquisitions coming from international cooperation channels, started immediately with the Belgian police and the Europol bodies, which made it possible to shed full light on the contacts maintained in Italy by the author of the terrorist attack, as known in the our country from 2012 to 2016.

In particular, the recipients of the measures, belonging to the virtual relational circle of the aforementioned Tunisian citizen, appear to be users of social profiles with contents typical of confessional extremist environments.

The developments of these investigations have already made it possible to identify other foreigners for whom the process for removal from the national territory has been defined with administrative expulsion measures.

The administrative positions of the foreigners subject to searches aimed at verifying the regularity of their stay on the national territory are being evaluated.
