Turin State Police - precautionary custody for the leaders of Askatasuna

The Turin State Police, as part of an articulated investigation coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor's Office, carried out, in collaboration with the DIGOS of Padua, Modena and Vicenza, 14 precautionary measures against the historical leaders of Askatasuna (both " in prison "), of 2 of the main referents of the most extremist wing of the No-Tav movement, (respectively Prohibition of Residence in the Municipalities of Val Susa and Obligation of Presentation to the PG), of 7 well-known militants of Askatasuna, ( Prohibition of Residence in the province of Turin or in the Municipalities of Val Susa) and (Obligation to Present to the PG) as well as 3 antagonistic exponents of Modena, the Guernica social center, Parma and Vicenza, the Bocciodromo social center (Prohibition of Residence in the province of Turin), made responsible for the crimes of aggravated resistance to a public official, damage, misrepresentation, non-compliance with the Authority's provisions.

In the same operational context, coordinated by the Central Directorate of Prevention Police, 16 searches were also carried out by the Digos police officers delegated by the Turin Judicial Authority in respect of some Askatasuna militants reported in a state of freedom in the same criminal proceeding.

The facts date back to last July 27, when, as part of the 4th edition of the "High Happiness Festival" organized at the permanent garrison of Venaus, about 3 thousand participants in the Kermesse from different territorial contexts, departed from Venaus in a procession, they reached the Municipality of Giaglione, along the Gallo Romano path (in violation of the interdicting provision issued by the Prefect of Turin) up to the "metal gate" previously located 1 km from the Chiomonte area of national strategic interest.

In the circumstance, while a group of troublemakers, using flexible and throwing stones, managed to create a gap in the metal structure, about 100 misrepresented antagonists, positioned on the upper part of the mountain, threw large stones at the address of the Police contingents who were forced to use some tear gas, then regrouping with the other nuclei of the forces of the order located near another metal gate set instead on the bridge of the river Clarea about 100 meters from the Chiomonte construction site. In that context, a Digos operator was injured.

After a while, the approximately 3000 protesters, who in the meantime had managed to break through and overturn the gate set up on the Gallo Romano path, arrived, partly at Ponte Clarea, and partly reached some paths on the upper part of the mountain by launching with slingshots about 50 card bombs.

At the same time, another 300 protesters positioned themselves in the lower part of the Clarea river, near the highway pylons, trying to cross the river to reach the perimeter of the Chiomonte construction site, while another group of troublemakers approached the gate on the Clarea bridge throwing several stones towards the contingents of the Mobile Departments who used tear gas, definitively dispersing the violent.

Finally, it should be noted that the investigative activity of the Digos was able to highlight the particular role assumed by the leaders of Askatasuna who incited the troublemakers and clearly coordinated all criminal conduct, also contributing to the material execution of criminal offenses.
