Punta Penna: tons of special waste from the illicit supply chain burned at the stake

(by Luciana Manna) This morning yet another fire was set under one of the pillars of the Punta Penna Bridge, on the Buffoluto side, where various illicit activities are practiced. Several quintals of various types of material consisting of plastic nets used in mussel farming, disused wooden and fiberglass boats, cans of paint, tyres.

Having arrived on site, after having been alerted a few days ago about a similar fire, I called the Fire Brigade who intervened with a first vehicle and subsequently had to call in a second tanker as well as having activated the local police of the environmental unit, also they arrived on site to report what had happened.

We return to denounce yet another illicit storage of special waste which is the product of as many illicit activities linked to the production activities of mariculture. In this context, regular mussel farmers find themselves crushed in a vice created by bureaucracy and illegality: the concessions of mussel farmers who requested them a long time ago must be regularised, and access to illegal piers must be denied to people who by acting in this way are attempting to people's health by generating an environmental disaster on the shores of the Mar Piccolo which is the cradle of the main fruit of our city, mussels.

The attestations of the incident will be forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office also by virtue of the fact that the area is affected by an illegal construction site dedicated to the practice of bunkering and maintenance of some boats.
